Compounding Pharmacy Technician
Job Responsibilities
- Review order list and create daily workload; match compounded products against outgoing orders.
- Effectively use pharmacy computer system to create and review formula logs as well as print, labels, worksheets, and manage inventory.
- Use proper compounding and labeling techniques emphasizing pharmaceutical elegance when making medications.
- Prepares medications including emulsions, liquids, powders and ointments.
- Follow proprietary formulations to compound commercially unavailable prescriptions into the appropriate dosage form
- Maintain product inventory by reordering materials/products necessary for compounding processes.
- Properly clean work area and equipment upon completion of daily compounding. Ensure the compounding lab and related equipment are cleaned and maintained according to policy
- Correctly use equipment necessary for preparing compounded products.
- Routinely checking for outdated or soon to expire chemicals, commercially available products and compounded products
- Select proper packaging for compounded products i.e. correct bottle size, tube size, etc.
- Understand and locate Material Safety Data Sheet “MSDS” guidelines for maintaining safety and managing safety events.
- Locate and demonstrate general knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures “SOP’s”.
- Use proper garbing techniques in accordance with SOP guidelines.
- Effectively prepare and organize all compounded products for pharmacist review.
- Thorough understanding of USP 795/800 guidelines.
- Understanding of medical terminology and pharmacy calculations
- Work closely with Quality Assurance Department to ensure product sterility, potency and absence of endotoxins.
- Must have knowledge of basic principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be capable of wearing all protective wear as required by State Board of Pharmacy. This includes, but not limited to; mask, gloves, gown, hair net, safety goggles etc.
